4th of July on a Budget

Everyone is looking for ways to cut costs and holidays like Christmas are nearly impossible to celebrate on a broke person’s budget.

In my opinion though, July 4th is one of the cheapest holidays to celebrate (behind of course Columbus Day which costs nothing). No special dresses or clothing (Easter), no extra gifts for every family member and friend and no truck load of candy or costumes (Halloween).

Everything that Independence Day entails is cheap.

July 4th Activities and Expenses

1. Parades are free. As a bonus you get free candy thrown at you and could possibly accumulate enough to save and pass out at Halloween.

2. Barbecues cost food and most people eat anyway. Hotdogs and hamburgers are an inexpensive meal anytime of the year. Big spenders can throw in chips, desserts and drinks although none of that is necessary.

3. Fireworks are cheap entertainment. For the price of bug repellant and gas you can sit back and ooh and aah for half an hour to an hour at a sparkly light show.

4. July 4th falls directly in the middle of the summer which means that most towns and cities are having some form of carnival or fair. If you have a lot of kids that enjoy rides and want to play all of the ring toss games, it could cost quite a bit. Otherwise, grab some cotton candy and take a nice walk through.

5. If anything, celebrate Independence Day by wearing a t shirt with a flag on it. Most of us have one, and if you don’t, it’s a pretty good investment. After all, you can wear it every July 4th and you’d be amazed how patriotic you feel.

Be safe and have a great and cheap 4th of July!
