I mentioned a while back how proud I was that I actually had some extra money after the bills were paid. I believe the post started with something similar to “woohoo…”
Well, after spending my weekend plus my vacation day fiddling with a crashed hard drive on my laptop, I gave in and purchased a new laptop. Fine and dandy, but you couldn’t possibly imagine the pain I was in using the money I had saved to purchase this laptop. No credit card bill for Miss Bankrupt. Cash all the way baby.
I did discuss this decision with the two wisest people I know, who provided their words of wisdom (for free even) and as I mentioned to Mr. Wisest Person I Know, writing this post will make me feel better about being broke again.
Even better though, on the way home, we decided to drive through a couple neighborhoods and look at Chrismas lights. My daughter sang “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” while the radio station provided other holiday music, as the wise couple drove us by the many decorated houses, much like a scene in a Christmas movie.
And honestly, the only thing that sounds better than a 6 year olds oohs and aahs and Christmas time is “you’re account is paid in full.” For a little while, I forgot that I was broke again. I forgot about all of the time I wasted on a crashed hard drive. I forgot about all the work I hadn’t gotten done, and most of all I forgot that I completely wasted a vacation day doing nothing but praying for my laptop to come up.
As I write this, my daughter is also wrapping her own presents that she bought from school. Sure she’s probably using every piece of wrapping paper and scotch tape that I have, but those presents will no doubt be the best looking ones under the tree. To me, anyway.
So, with an empty bank account I close this exhausting and frustrating weekend. I not only have a new laptop and can continue to toil away for another couple years, but I also have a great family and a very perfect daughter that reminds me everyday of my broke existence, the reason I’m even trying.
Gotta be happy about that, right?
