I read an article today about the newest Walmart conspiracy. They’re purposely placing chips and soda in the toy aisle to make kids beg for junk and consequently causing all of America’s kids to become fat, lazy and parked in front of the television.
I think it’s funny that we always have someone else to blame for our issues. Never shall we ever have to accept responsibility for our own actions because we can always blame Walmart.
Of course it’s a marketing strategy. If for some reason you have a weakness for Doritos and Mountain Dew, then listening to your kids whine about chips and sodas in the middle of the toy aisle may send you right into the shakes. I don’t know. I avoid the toy aisle anyway. I mean I’ll push a rickety, squeaky cart with only 3 wheels completely around the front of the store just to avoid the toy aisle. I have been known to yell “Hey, is that Grandma over there?” just to divert my daughter’s attention if I’m accidentally in the danger zone. I’m not ashamed. It works for me. Good exercise anyway.
Walmart has even admitted to placing items together to make shopping easier, ie putting the chips and soda near the DVDs. Why wouldn’t they? If I were interested in a cozy movie night I’d be more than appreciative if everything was all in one place. I’d be even more appreciative though if someone in electronics could actually answer an electronics question…but again I digress.
I love Walmart. If I’ve ever been brainwashed by anyone it would be that big yellow happy face. Though I know no one there by name, I feel as though we’re friends (me and Walmart that is). I’m no saint, and although I’ve considered living completely off the land, you still will find not one bag of chips or can of soda in my house. I don’t buy the stuff. It makes no difference where they stick it in the store, it’s not on my list.
It’s not the responsibility of Walmart or anyone else to raise healthy children. At the end of the day, Walmart serves its purpose. To sell cheap stuff.
Walmart could tie the chips and soda to my head and if it costs me money, that stuff still isn’t leaving the store with me.
My suggestion for Walmart shoppers is to not focus so much on the layout of the store or all the “traps” that are laid out to trick you into buying stuff.
I worry about getting in the line with the cashier that talks to much.
Or not finding my car in the parking lot. I can buy everything I need for under $10 most of the time. For that, they can put their chips where they want.
