Please Tax Hotdogs

I guess some people aren’t happy about the suggestion to tax soda. To me, it’s like cigarettes. Neither is good for anyone and serve no purpose other than making people unhealthy. I rarely drink soda and of course my daughter doesn’t at all yet, so of course the selfish part of me says to go ahead and tax soda as much as you want.

In fact, lucky for you, I have a list of other useless things that I think should be taxed.

1. Hotdogs
No one on earth needs hotdogs. Especially cheap hotdogs.

2. Little Debbie Snacks
A box of 12 cakes is cheaper than a bag of apples. Either apples need to be free or Little Debbie Snacks need to cost more.

3. Beefaroni, Ravioli and Spaghettios
I realize that canned pasta was invented for lazy moms like myself, but it’s healthier and just as efficient to boil some noodles and dump on a little sauce. Even if that’s all you do, it will definitely taste better than a can of mushy noodles and preservatives.

4. Koolaid
Same as soda just not as fancy. Koolaid and powder mix drinks always have pictures of fruit on them but basically have no nutritional value. And don’t kid yourself…there’s no fruit in that.

5. Ramen Noodles
I eat this quite often. I probably wouldn’t if it were taxed and cost a lot more. In fact I know I wouldn’t. This would of course pain many a college student.

6. All Fast Food
McDonald’s and Burger King should be taxed simply to offset the cost of taking care of people that eat fast food from birth to elderhood. In fact, that’s my healthcare plan. Charge 10 bucks for a Whopper. No one in their right mind would pay that.

I know, it’s all a bit unrealistic and like I said I am fully aware of how selfish it is for me to be okay with taxing and charging more for things that I personally don’t use or believe is unhealthy. But, yes. I’m okay with raising taxes on any of these things….especially hotdogs.
