Rich and Poor; Them and Us

Besides the obvious differences between rich people and poor people (meaning designer clothes, fancy houses and luxury vehicles) there is another difference. Do rich people lack honesty?

Take Sammy Sosa for example. He and his wife show up at some kind of gathering which I’m guessing consisted of other rich and famous people, not only in fancy designer clothing, but Mr. Sosa’s skin was actually a whole race lighter. I mean like Michael Jackson lighter. So much lighter, he looks a lot like Eddie Munster.

Friends and family are saying the pictures look way more dramatic and that in person, it wasn’t a big deal. Do you know what would happen if I showed up at a family gathering with a completely different skin color? My grandma would ask me what the hell is wrong with me, my parents would ask if I’m okay and all of the nephews would be laughing at how funny Auntie looks. No one would be acting like they didn’t notice or like it wasn’t a big deal.

I have often wondered with celebrities like Donald Trump and his obnoxious comb-over (and now Sammy Sosa’s phantom skin color change) if no one in their lives loves them enough to tell them the truth. That my friends is the biggest difference between the rich and the poor, them and us. Our families and friends don’t care if they hurt our feelings. If it looks ridiculous they’re  not going to let you be seen with them looking ridiculous without a reasonable explanation.

Sammy Sosa’s skin care change has been explained as some kind of skin rejuvenation process he’s going through, others have speculated that it’s because of steroid use. Whatever the case, it only proves my point further. 1. Only a rich person would pay for a skin rejuvenation process that turns out like that, and 2. someone somewhere knows for certain if it’s caused by steroid use and no one’s saying anything because after all, it’s Sammy Sosa.

In the end, I’d be interested in the real cause of the skin color change. My opinion doesn’t matter much, after all I’m a broke, single mother, blogger. If getting ahead means losing the honesty of the people who are important to me though, I’ll pass.

(Note:  thanks mom for telling me when I was 18 how stupid I looked with my nose pierced…)
