I haven’t researched or even gone over President Obama’s healthcare plan, I did notice a frequent tagline that read something to the effect of “healthcare for everyone”.
Just that short phrase is enough to give me a little more hope. I’m neither for or against it, I don’t know enough about the plan to make an informed decision.
The only reason I bring it up is because I’m one of those people that is referred to so often when discussing healthcare or health insurance. You know, “_____ number of broke people have to choose between their health and paying their bills…” Well, that’s me. I do have health insurance with my employer, but my copay is $30, and based upon my statements, the insurance doesn’t seem to cover much. At this time, my daughter isn’t covered at all. I once decided against taking her to the hospital for a suspected concussion because the bill would’ve killed me.
But looking back, it would’ve killed me for sure if something was seriously wrong with her and I didn’t take her. Her health, is worth more than any bill from the hospital.
My health though, is a different story. I can put off a lot of things. I can live with a lot. I can’t help but wonder if I’d live longer if I didn’t have to worry about how much it was going to cost me. But, I understand that it needs to cost money because that’s how people are paid.
Kids don’t take advantage of medical insurance though. Neither do the elderly. I’d be perfectly fine with paying for mine the way that I am for the rest of my life if my daughter or my grandmother or my parents when they’re old don’t have to.
So I guess I’m just hopeful about the proposed healthcare plan. I hope that it helps those that are the most vulnerable. In the end, that’s good for my health too.
